The beauty in this world is heart stirring –
yet when shadows attack,
the colors bleed, and rivers once clear
now gush red with grief.
I grasp my darkness with both hands –
afraid to let it roam on this battered land.
Yet, you see others not holding back –
letting go of their madness with no regrets.
We shouldn’t live in fear, but be wise –
there are monsters hiding in plain sight.

In my opinion the scariest monsters of all are human. I’m not saying every human. I’m talking about the violent ones. The creepers, the pervs, the ones who are completely filled with insanity and do the most deplorable things.
Serial Killers, gangs, politicians.
They make for what can be a scary world to live in.

I chuckled reading how you threw the politicians in with the serial killers, gangs, creepers, and the pervs…

Welcome back to the dark side.
I do so worry when you visit the Light side.
I mean, you may never come back. 😢

“I grasp my darkness with both hands”- Yes, that’s what most of us do. Our conscience and morality, our goodness help us to win over the darkness. But, then again, there are monsters around, on a loose. We should keep an eye and face them with all our virtue and wisdom.
An excellent piece…so relevant to the phase we are passing through… 🙂

I think the ones living in the rivers gushing with red and grief, the monsters, would write about the beauty of their world, and the crazy streams of water clear as cold ice and the monsters over it. Just a funny thought. ^^ As always I love the beautiful darkness of your poems. Thanks, Rose.

I was just whining to Matt (FlyTrapMan) that you didn’t say anything about it. I thought you might have not liked our work. I’m such a whiner! It was our pleasure, Joshua, and I’m happy you liked the drawing. You got a great response — of course; the poem’s superb. 💋

Not a chance! ❤ I just didn't know where to find it or if it was up and running yet ha!
A nice little quote for worrying that I heard from my father recently that seems suitable plus, funny enough, it's (Matt)hew 😀
Matthew 6:34:
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own."

That’s lovely — from the New Testament! Haha, from the Apostle (Matt)hew. Great advice 🙂 Thank you.

You know, I thought I was a little dark but lordy…gushing red after this post, all i see in my mind is a throat cut…and yes there are monsters in plain sight and yes I have seen a throat cut and a couple of monsters walking among us that I wish I hadn’t seen but throat cut was on an anonymous victim, so while I can’t say it was a good thing, I’ve been around worse. jeeze I’d better go to bed before I get worse. See yah tomorrow or sometime soon. And keep writing you fascinate me. ~~dru~~
ps, I really like the phrase grasping my darkness with both hands

I knew there must be a good reason I only let my darkness out through a pen/keyboard…let it roam free and people would call the poor mess a monster and hurt its feelings. 😕
I’m relieved you’re holding on to your darkness with both hands, Rose.
Great poem…I love it.

You’re right, Cathy, we mustn’t allow our monsters to have their feelings hurt. I use two hands and sometimes handcuffs… oh, we were talking about darkness! Haha — never mind. Thanks darling! xo
