I walk a tightrope –

trying to keep my balance.

I won’t fall for you.

  1. Beautiful haiku, and then upon learning what the photo is, it becomes even deeper; the person is under the illusion of choice; they needn’t worry about falling, they’re stuck in a spiders web. Or maybe that’s just my interpretation. Anyway, it was great.

    • Yes, you’re right! Here’s the thing, your lovely photograph doesn’t tell the readers that it’s a spider web they’re viewing. So, the initial meaning of the poem only shifts if that’s divulged.

This is definitely one of my favorites of your photos. I enjoyed the dark elements, and the “illumination” on the tightrope when no hope actually exists.

  2. When I read the photo was of a single filament of a spider’s web, your haiku revealed a different meaning than I originally thought…obstinate turned to trapped. But then, what could one expect to happen when walking on a strand of spider-silk? I admire how you inject so much meaning in so few words, Rose.
