A Wanted Pain

I want this pain as it pours down on me.
I want this hurt that keeps badgering –
unrelenting and grasping.
This merciless spasm is a dagger through me –
forever pushing and prodding –
making me promise
to never get down on my knees.
I’ll clench my fists and keep fighting.
It knocks me hard and leaves me bruises –
if I should even lean towards defeat.
Don’t stop this perpetual pain –
this excruciating screw in my brain.
It’s a continuum of agony that I need.

  1. Have you ever read The Hellbound Heart? Your poem reminds me of that book — you should check it out. The book refers to the subtle relationship between pleasure and pain and how they can become united, or indistinguishable. Nice work!

  2. Yes! I thought about that before! I can visualize a screw struggling its way through the hard wood when I think of some people I know. They just want that pain! Amazing is the world of people – a source of inspiration for a poet.
